NYPD Deputy Inspector Remembers Yossie Yurowitz, A’H

I believe the last time I spoke to Yossi was during the summer in Fallsburg/West Park. I always referred to him as his Flatbush Shomrim Unit number, F-35 because he gave so much to the community, to teens and to families. We spoke about our times on the streets and the time he narrated a video for Shomrim when they made a film similar to the show Cops, but one thing that stands out for me personally was seeing him at the WTC on 9/11/01. He was assisting people and taking photos of Hatzolah members who were actively helping the injured. He did this to document the horrific scene and the heroic actions of Hatzolah members. Although I was at the WTC that entire day I’ve only seen one photo of me there, and that photo was taken by Yossi Yurowitz.

Yossi was my role model. My friend. My hero.
