Jonathan Strauss Remembers Yossie Yurowitz, A’H

Dear Layla, Riki, Esti, Baily, and Tzviki-

I was fortunate to have met Yossi in Camp Munk where he was my rotating counselor when I was 10 years old. I didn’t form much of a relationship with him at that time, but I got to really know him several years later when he started to plan the Israel trips for Centers for Care and then work hand in hand at the start of The Grand Healthcare System. For almost 5 years we sat in offices next door to each other and had innumerable amount of conversations and experiences together. We shared long drives, flights, and even shared a hotel room a few times. To say he was one of the good guys would be an understatement. He was one of the best guys. There was no project he could not tackle and no conversation that was too uncomfortable for him to have and more importantly no favor he wouldn’t do for someone else. We became such close friends that we spoke almost weekly even after I no longer worked for the company and just shared laughs and happy moments with each other. I generally have a more serious personality, so Yossi was the perfect foil in that his magic was making everything happy and fun. There was no topic that was too serious or no event that was too stiff that Yossi could not add the appropriate levity to. Yossi was full of life and added life to everything and everyone he touched. He was one of a kind. As he would say, ‘After G-d made me, he broke the mold.’ I loved him like a brother and could not pick a better friend. He was such a special person and I cannot imagine continuing to live my life without him around. I will always remember his quotes, counsel, and advice.

To all of you that are his immediate family I can only imagine the feeling of loss you must be going through. You had an amazing husband and father and you should take comfort with that thought forever. I always joked with him saying, ‘In my next life I want to come back as your son-in-law’ because he treated them so well and with such respect. He loved all of you, his family, more than anything.

המקום ינחם אתכם בּתוך שׁאר אבלי ציון וירושׁלים
