A SWEET SOUL
IN LOVING MEMORY
This website was created as a labor of love in memory of Yossie (‘Joe”) Yurowitz, who was tragically taken from us in November 2020, at the young age of 51.
Yossie was a beautiful soul who was admired and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
To know Yossie, was to love him. He endeared himself to everyone. Everyone wanted to be his friend and to be close with him. He possessed the quintessential “shem tov” and was literally beloved by people of all ages and all stripes.
He was full of vitality and life and exuded amazing personal charm and charisma.
He was scrupulous about Torah and Mitzvos and spearheaded many tzedakah projects and causes.
Indeed, Yossie was able to accomplish more in his short life, than many strive to achieve in an entire lifetime.
One of his most cherished mitzvos, was to help prepare the Shabbos candles and pre-light the wicks for his Wife, Layala.
They then ushered in the Shabbos together 10 minutes earlier than the required zman.
Yossie deeply understood the significance of this Mitzva and its transformative powers.
During the period of Shiva for Yossie, a close family friend shared the following personal recollection with Mrs. Yurowitz involving Yossie and his love for this Mitzva.
At a certain Shabbos simcha in a hotel attended by their respective families, she hurriedly came down on Erev Shabbos right before the zman to light the candles only to find Yossie already standing there with his Wife.
Yossie turned to her and said, “they say that pre-lighting the candle wicks is a segula for a great Shalom Bayis and it has worked for me for 30 years!”
Indeed, Mrs. Yurowitz noted that Yossie always stood by her side when she lit the Shabbos candles each Friday.

About Yossie
Anyone who knew Yossie will attest to his creative genius. He was extremely talented and gifted in so many areas, yet never was this more apparent than when he was beginning a new project.
Whether in business or in matters of spirituality, Yossie loved to come up with a “chap” and a creative way to solve a problem.
So, we thought what better way to promote this mitzva that was so close to his heart than by creating a website in his memory!
It is exactly what he would have done and will no doubt bring tremendous joy and Aliyah to his exalted neshama!
